KNIGHT ROUSSEAU
MYSTICAL MELODY
The blood bay stallion reared up on the track in a fury. His nostrils flared as he rolled his eyes at the rail. Aaron frowned and focused on trying to get the big beast to settle down. This son of Night Stalker was a true terror right down to the core and Aaron was almost getting tired of dealing with him... almost. He had been the colt's handler since he was weaned. No one could manage the young colt so Aaron had stepped in. That is probably the reason he was still needed at ARS. He sighed. Things had settled down now but he was sure Kirsten still held it against him for knocking up her baby sister. Who knows if he will still have a job after this brute of a horse retired.
The five year old stallion pawed at the ground and reared up. "Whoa, whoa" It was like the stallion was annoyed at the fact that he was back at the GHF track. Not like that it made any sense whatsoever... Aaron snuck a peek at the rail and saw his boss frowning at him. He desperately needed to get a handle on Rousseau and get down to business. He was training for a big race this weekend and he had to be ready. Or Kirsten will have their hinds.
Chantal pushed the sweet lady into a smooth gallop and glanced in Aaron's direction. What was he doing? She sighed. She hoped that she would get a lot for attention for her riding but so far no one has noticed her in the last 4 months she has been working for Akita Rose Stables. Not that she had much of a chance to shine so far with the barn fire and everything else. She had expected a lot more than this. This weekend would be her first big race since she arrived out here. She was nervous but definitely excited. She patted the dark bay mare beneath her. Melody was a seasoned grade one racehorse and Chantal always loved riding her. Its too bad she hasn't been out much this year yet. This could be their chance to shine.
Chantal slowed Melody as they reached the sixth pole and turned her to the outside. She circled the mare back and trotted her out. She frowned. Where was Aaron? She bit her lip and stared as the big bay galloped towards them. Rousseau was throwing his head and trying to get his head. Aaron held tight to the reins. Rousseau was not getting his way. Not yet.
Chantal kicked Melody into gear and turned her back to the inside rail. Melody took off like a shot. Rousseau was just passing as they made their way to the rail. Melody stretched her legs and reached her nose out and lengthened her stride. She loves to be in front and there was no way she was going to let Rousseau get his way and lead down to the wire.
They fought nose for nose for the final quarter mile of the track. Rousseau had a temper and a fiery racing spirit but Melody is competitive and well seasoned. It was two very different rides with two very different styles but have one thing in common: they like to win.
